EMANCIPTATION DAY

Emancipation Day is celebrated on 1st August in Ghana and marks the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, including Ghana (formerly the Gold Coast), in 1834. It's a significant day that commemorates the end of chattel slavery and honors the resilience and struggles of those who fought for freedom. In Ghana, Emancipation Day is observed with various cultural and educational events, including lectures, parades, music and dance performances, and reenactments of historical events related to slavery and emancipation. It's an important opportunity for reflection on Ghana's history and its role in the global struggle against slavery and colonialism.

Relive the historic 2023 Emancipation Day celebration, where the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo , dignitaries from the Ministry of Arts and Tourism, traditional leaders of Assin Manso and our brethren from the African diaspora gathered together to celebrate this auspicious event. Hosted by Paramount Chief of Assin Apimanim and the President of the Assin Apimanim Traditional Council, BARIMA Kwame Nkyi XIII, this momentous event honored 25 years of commemorating freedom and resilience.
